64th Brandywine launches Timberwolf section

WEST GROVE – JUNE 9, 2016 – Seven Otter scouts of the 64th Brandywine Baden-Powell Service Association (BPSA) “swam up” to Timberwolves last week during their Thursday meeting at the West Grove Community Room.

The seven scouts are the first Timberwolves in the 64th Brandywine. The Swimming Up ceremony celebrates the advancement of an Otter to the Timberwolf Pack. The Timberwolf Motto is “Do your best.”

The new Timberwolves are Dylan Ball, Eoin Mitchell, and Zachary Swager of Cochranville; Cole Steuer of Exton; and Ronnie Bednarz, Henry Grimme, and Sebastian Seavey, of Oxford. Timothy Grimme, of Oxford, will serve as “Akela,” the Cubmaster of the Pack.

The Timberwolf section is open to boys and girls ages 8–10 (grades 3 through 5). Timberwolf scouts participate in games and practical activities based on “The Jungle Book” by Rudyard Kipling. The overall program is similar to Lord Robert Baden-Powell’s original Wolf Cub program.

Interested youth and parents are invited to attend an Open House in September to learn about the BPSA and Traditional Scouting. The 64th Brandywine will be recruiting both boys and girls for Otters (ages 5-7) and  Timberwolves (ages 8-10), as well as volunteer leaders. All handbooks and source material regarding BPSA scouting can be downloaded for free at the 64th Brandywine website, 64thbrandywine.org.

The 64th Brandywine is a chartered group of the BPSA serving south Chester County. Scouts come from several local school districts, including Oxford Area, Octoraro, Unionville-Chadds Ford, and Avon Grove.

The BPSA was formed in the U.S. in 2006 as a co-ed, inclusive, secular and traditional-style Scouting association. The association continues the principles and practices of Scouting laid down by Robert Baden-Powell in 1907 that have been developed and refined in Scout associations around the world for over a century. The BPSA is not affiliated with either the Boy Scouts of America or the Girls Scouts of the USA; the BPSA is a member of the World Federation of Independent Scouts (WFIS).
